Artist Winthrop Turney created this painting as a fantasy gathering of American wildlife visually spanning his nation from coast to coast. The artist hoped that this painting of animals grouped around a lavender-tinted tree would become a large mural to adorn a school. The mural would show urban schoolchildren American animals from a variety of environments. Denizens of the eastern coast and swamps inhabit the foreground: the Florida alligator basks below a flying American pelican and a tern; an anhinga spreads its wings to dry; and an egret stands in the lower right corner. The woodland animals are further back: a gray squirrel perches on a tree branch while the striped skunk, groundhog, black bear, wolverine, American porcupine, and red fox stand on the middle ground. In the background are creatures native to the western plains and mountains: the coyote, turkey vulture, pronghorn antelope, mountain lion, and mountain goat. Like the children for whom he painted, Turney lived in New York. He probably knew the gray squirrels of Central Park better than the other animals in the picture, which he saw only in pictures and New York-area zoos.

The Animal Flower Cave is located under the cliffs at the Northern tip of Barbados. The Cave is an interesting study in geology, local history and stunning sea activity. This beautiful Sea-Cave is a ‘must see’ for all nature loving visitors.

Mystery Animal [Explored]

In 2009, this fellow was born at the Alaska Zoo. He was a big baby!

Here’s a hint. He comes from way outside Alaska. He is not native to Alaska at all.

The mystery animal is husky at around 2,000 pounds! He is tall. He once charged me at the Zoo and only a very robust, heavy-metal fence prevented me from being pummeled or worse!

Also, when the beast was trying to get at me at the fence, he snorted some kind of mucus product from his nose on my face and upper body!! Jez! I like animals but it was still pretty disgusting! If anyone remembers this story, you may remember the animal.

OK, the mystery animal is a Tibetan Yak!

Bristol Concrete Lattice

This architecture is pretty cool with hexagonal windows and a diamond shaped latticework exterior. I would imagine that it is not to everyone’s taste however!

Scanned as a positive image then inverted in gimp then auto equalise in gimp. Prior to auto equalise the red was a bit overpowering, mainly due to the excessive light leaks. I like a few small light leaks but when they cover too much of the frame the result is that they can make the image rather washed out and lacking in any contrast.

These photos are oldies but goodies from a trip we took to Spain in April 2004. Granada is a gorgeous city – full of history, culture, and excellent wine and Sangria – definitely a good place to go back to!

Do you know what kind of flower this is? I don’t remember. I took this on my friend’s back patio. He mentioned that this flower only blooms at night. Taken with my Sony TX5 point and shoot camera.

Here is my detailed TX5 review that I posted earlier this week.

Creepy tree

Creepy tree Carton Kildare, shooting into the light on a misty morning has given this tree a creepy haunted look, it was taken on a misty morning with the Hasselbald 60mm lens and a yellow filter on a new film Lucky 100asa (e-Bay cheap and cheerful) developed in ID 11. A nice film that curls a lot but seems to handle this contrasty scene quite well.
